SILIGURIঃGrand Inauguration of OORJA 2017 Football Tournament by BSF North Bengal Frontiers Bengal Chapter of OORJA 2017 Football Tournament was inaugurated amidst much fanfare by Governor of West Bengal Keshri Nath Tripathi at Kanchenjunga Stadium Siliguri on friday. Gautam Deb Minister of Tourism Govt of West Bengal along with other civil dignitaries graced the occasion. The inaugural program started with welcome address by Dr Rajesh Mishra, IPS IG BSF followed by colour ful march past under taken by 16 teams( 8 girls/8 boys) of young footballers pooled up from different parts of West Bengal.
Honourable Governor of West Bengal witnessed the trilling and exciting inaugural cliffhanger between Mohan Bagan Sail and Diamond Harbour which ended in a draw. While addressing the star-studded Stadium ,the Chief guest applauded the BSF North Bengal for the arrangements made in organising the tournament.He also extended his best wishes to all team members for their matches and appreciated all BSF officials who have put their best to make this tourment a successful and memorable event.
The opening ceremony was witnessed by more than 500 spectators. The function was also covered by large no of media persons. During the function Honourable Governor of West Bengal honoured 04 eminent Footballer who represented Indian national squad in past. The initiative was very much praised by these football legends.
Learnt that BSF is organising first phase of State level football tournament OORJA -2017, an initiative by Prime minister to promote football in the entire country ahead of FIFA under 17 Football World Cup to be hosted by India in the month of Oct.
Besides the inaugural match two more girls matches were played today.In the first match Diamond Harbour Sports Academy defeatd Sarala Mahila Sports Academy by 7-0 and another match was won by Sansad Maitree Club Kolkata 6-1 who trounced Diamond Sporting Club Siliguri.
