A team of 12 members, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture under the chairmanship of Shri. Hukmdev Narayan Yadav, Honourable Member of Parliament, visited the ICAR-NRC for Orchids on 16th April 2018. Dr. D.R. Singh, Director welcomed the committee members and presented the overview of different activities of institutes in front of Chairperson and members of the committee. Honorable chairman and members appreciated the, particularly the new initiative taken by the institute i.e. orchid based farming system, waste utilization, conservation & utilization of water, Swachh Bharat activities and work plant for doubling the farmer’s income by 2022.
The chairman suggested the co-ordinated research work, diversified agriculture and wide technology transfer among farmers/entrepreneurship. He advised more preference should be give ITK and indigenous bioresources (Desi and on-farm varieties). Further, the members of the committee suggested working on the medicinal value of orchids and their importance in the medical science.
Finally, a team visited the research farms and the team of PSC of Agriculture appreciated the efforts of the Director and his team. The meeting was concluded with the vote of thanks given by the Dr. D. R. Singh, Director, ICAR-NRCO.
