In the Darjeeling Hills Municipal Elections will be held tomorrow.The Candidates from various political parties will be contesting for the seats in the civic bodies.
The civic body polls (naagarik shareer chunaav) will be held in Darjeeling, Mirik, Kurseong and Kalimpong municipalities.
In the civic body polls will be contesting are Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), Trinamool Congress (TMC), Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF), Jana Andolan Party (JAP), Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Independent (IND).
In Darjeeling’s 32 wards GJM has fielded 32, TMC 20, GNLF 12, JAP 5, CPIM 4 and IND 22 candidates. In Darjeeling 62,829 voters will be casting votes in 81 polling stations.
While in Kurseong’s 20 wards GJM has 20, TMC 15, GNLF 6, JAP 6 and IND 10 candidates. A total of 20,748 voters will be casting votes in 27 polling stations in Kurseong.
Similarly in Kalimpong, a total of 36,601 voters will be casting votes in 46 polling stations. GJM has fielded with 22, TMC 19, JAP 23, GNLF 3 CPIM 9 and IND 26 candidates for wards no 23.
Meanwhile, A total of 8,875 voters will be casting their votes with only 9 wards in Mirik. GJM has fielded 22, TMC 19, JAP 23, GNLF 3, CPIM 9 and IND 26 candidates.
The counting of votes will begin on May 17. The political parties have fielded various heavyweights in the civic body polls and bait to win the polls with upmost numbers of votes.
