Siliguri: As the state govt. takes over the hill region, the tension between the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha and Trinamool Congress has started to burn on fumes once again.
Recently the Govt. of West Bengal has assigned Bengali to be taught as a compulsory language in the schools. The curriculum contains the information that any two other languages can be taken by the student which will be taught.
The spark was getting intense day by day when finally Morcha Supremo Mr. Vimal Gurung called for a strike yesterday. The schools and colleges are to be closed on account of supporting the strike on the 1st and 2nd of June, in addition the strike will be continued for 4 days(4th-8th June). He also added that the state education board is conspiring to take over their right to learn their mother language.
As per to the expertise, the decision of making Bengali compulsory to all has hurt the sentiments of the people of the hills. They also said that the Nepalis have always been protective about their culture and language.
Although the people are supporting the strike, there have been controversies. As per the sources, many are unhappy about the process of the strike. It is said that the education system can be hampered if the strikes start to happen more often. Some students have also put on the words that the suspend of schools and colleges is absurd and childish.
